This fine example of coastal style is also a study in sustainable building practices. The four-bedroom home is designed to use less energy through good solar design, and the materials used are natural or recycled where possible.
Roof overhangs and passive ventilation stacks prevent overheating in summer but allow maximum sun penetration in winter. Sustainable Abodo weatherboards, low-VOC paints, boosted insulation, energy-efficient appliances and underground water tanks ensure a future-proofed, healthy home for generations to come.
As if that’s not enough, this 366sqm house – dramatic inside and out – is a stunning addition to its seaside Auckland neighbourhood. Concealed steel portal frames form the vaulted roof and differentiate the floor levels. Also critical to the project’s success were the automated skylights, ceiling heights and the design of the stairs.
The character details of the weatherboard walls, timber linings, exposed rafters and trims are extra touches that exude personality and add to the feeling that this beachfront home is quality, inside and out.
When we were looking for a builder we contacted a previous client of Faulkner Construction for a reference and their advice was to look no further than Faulkner Construction. Having now completed our own project with them we can totally echo this advice and if we decide to build again they are the only builders we would consider using.

Faulkner Construction were engaged to build our new house at Beachlands in September 2018, a project which took just over twelve months and came in ahead of schedule and under budget.
The over-arching feeling which comes from Faulkner Construction is that they have the experience and professionalism to handle whatever issues a building program can throw up. Headed by owner Ross Faulkner, the team of Sieng, Alastair, Andrea and all the tradesmen at Faulkner Construction are a formidable team who are craftsman in their field and produce a product to the highest standard, proven by the awards they regularly win at the Master Builders House of the Year Competition.
We genuinely enjoyed this building process, which is something you don't often hear about building a new house. Coming to site most days to see the changes and progress being made, we were very involved in the build and quite particular about the details of our house and Faulkner respected this and delivered an amazing result which has exceeded our expectations. It has actually been difficult writing this reference because words don't seem to adequately express our gratitude for the care and professionalism Faulkner Construction took with our project, particularly Sieng, the site foreman. He is completely unflappable and his attention to detail and ability to get on with the job was a large contributor to the success of the project.
